New Resort Offerings for 2012 at Walt Disney World
2012 will bring new resort hotel offerings to Walt Disney World guests, including a completely new resort and upgraded rooms at another.
This year, Disney created a few new room categories at the popular moderate resort, Port Orleans Riverside. In addition to the existing Standard View, Water View and King Bed rooms, they added Preferred Rooms (which are closer to the main building) and River View rooms. The River View rooms offer a view of the Sassagoula River, while the Water View rooms simply offer a view of a pool. All of these rooms currently contain two double beds, with some also having a roll-out trundle bed for a fifth guest under the age of 10.
Beginning in January 2012, Riverside will open up a new room category referred to as Garden View. These rooms will have two queen beds (without the option of a trundle bed), and will offer a view of “green space”. The Standard View, Water View, River View and Preferred Rooms will still come with two double beds, and the option for a trundle bed.
The highlight of the Riverside refurbishment will come in early March, with the opening of the new Royal Rooms, which will be decorated by Princess Tiana for visits by her royal friends, the Disney Princesses! These rooms will be elaborate and come with two queen beds. It does not appear that trundle beds will be an option in these rooms, but views will include Standard, Garden, Water and River.
There’s even bigger news for parties with five or six guests – the new Art of Animation Resort. This brand new hotel is being built where the second half of Pop Century was supposed to be built, across the lake from where Pop Century sits now.
This new resort will offer primarily Family Suites, much like the ones at All-Star Music…only better! Phase 1 will be available for stays beginning June 1, 2012, and will consist of the Finding Nemo buildings. Phase 2 will open in September with the addition of the Cars buildings. October will bring The Lion King buildings into the game, while the Little Mermaid buildings will follow in the months after October 2012.
The Family Suites will be a major perk for larger groups, since families of 5 are limited to a room at Port Orleans Riverside, or a Deluxe Suite or Villa somewhere. Groups of 6 either need two rooms, or a Villa, in most cases. The Family Suites will have one queen bed in the master bedroom, and a living room with one double Inova Table-Bed and one double sleeper sofa. They will also include 2 bathrooms, a mini kitchen, reading chair and table and chairs.
Amenities will include flat panel televisions, in-room safes, voice mail, high speed internet access (for a fee, of course), a microwave, a compact fridge, a coffee maker, a hair dryer, and an iron and ironing board. For families with 6 people plus a child under the age of 3, a complimentary pack-n-play crib is available.
